2.1 General Search Tips
This site supports
some wildcard characters. The following search tips
will work with text fields, such as Claim Name, Locator
Name, and Owner Name, but will not work with fields such
as Tenure Number or Map Number. If in doubt, give
it a try - you can't hurt anything!

- 5% will find occurrences which start with the number 5 followed by zero
or more characters
- %5 will find occurrences which have the number
5 anywhere within the field

_ (underscore)

Any single character; for example:
- _OLD will find occurrences which begin with any character
followed by the letters OLD for example: GOLD, HOLD, GOLDEN, GOLD DUST, but
will not find REAL GOLD or OLD GOLD

Any single character within the specfied
range or set; for example:
- [A-G]OLD will find occurrences which begin with any letter from A
to G which are followed by OLD; for example: BOLD, GOLD, GOLDEN TREASURE, but will not
return: HOLD, MOLD, TOLD
- [ABC]OLD will find occurrences which begin with the letters A, B,
or C followed by OLD; for example: BOLD, BOLDER, COLD, COLD WIND, etc

Any single character not within the specified
range or set; for example:
- [^A-G]OLD will find occurrences that do not begin with the
letters from A to G which are followed by OLD; for example: HOLD, HOLDING, MOLD, SOLD, etc
- [^GH]OLD will find occurrences that do not begin with G or H
which are followed by OLD; for example: BOLDER, COLD, MOLD, SOLD will be found, but GOLDEN
and HOLDER will not be found.

2.2 Crown Grant Search
Description
The Crown Grant Search option allows
for the search for crown grants by a combination of issued to,
land district, grant date, grant number, volume,
and
film codes.
The order of the result will initially be by the issued to name and land disrict.
On the 'Search Results' page you can
sort by a different column by clicking the column header; for example
to sort by grant number simply click the words 'Grant Number' in the
column title.

Description
The Crown Grant Detail page is displayed in response to a
click on a details hyperlink on the Crown Grant Search
Results page.

2.4 Image Basket
Description
The Image Basket displays the list of crown grant images that have
been selected, via the Crown Grant Detail page. This page can be
printed and referenced during the ordering of images from Tantalis.

3 Error Pages
There are three
basic types of error pages generated by the Registries
Department Search and Statistics application.
- Connection Error Page
The application needs to make connections to the
Tantalis database to present on request and result pages.
This error page is displayed when the database,
or the server that the database resides on, is not available.
- Sql Error Page
The application generates sql queries to run against
the Tantalis database based on the parameters entered on
the request pages. This error page will be displayed
if the application generates an sql query that is rejected
by the database.
