Printing Problems with Adobe Acrobat Reader version
5
Several users of this site have reported a specific problem when they
attempt to print a portion of a Mineral Titles Reference Map using Adobe
Acrobat version 5. However, printing the entire map appears to work
properly. The following description of the problem and recommendation
should help identify and alleviate the printing problem.
The following points describe the symptoms of the problem:
- When viewing a PDF map you use the 'Graphic Select Tool' within
Acrobat to outline a selected portion of a map,
- Then you right-click within the selected portion of the map to open
a pop-up menu,
- On the pop-up menu you select 'Print' then choose an older printer
(such as LaserJet 2, 3, or 4), then click 'OK' to print,
- The printed page is blank - the selected portion of the map did
not print.
Experiments with this problem indicate that a bug exists in Acrobat
version 5 which is only apparent on some older printers, such as LaserJet
2, 3, & 4 and other older printers. Printing seems to work properly
on newer printers such as HP LaserJet 4050.
If you experience this problem the recommended solution is to uninstall
Adobe Acrobat version 5, reboot your PC, then install Adobe Acrobat
version 4. To download the 6 megabyte file for Acrobat version 4 click
