Tourism and Economic Development

The Ministry of Sustainable Resource Management plays a key role in assisting in the development of stronger and more diversified resource-based local economies.

Activities include:

  1. effective regional participation in the development of First Nations economic measures
  2. completing regional Tourism Opportunities Studies to identify new business opportunities and support the management of public land and natural resources
  3. establishing productive working relationships with businesses and community organizations to foster economic growth in the region

Tourism Opportunity Studies:

The Ministry, in co-operation with the Ministry of Forests, and Land & Water BC, recently completed a Sunshine Coast Tourism, Commercial Recreation and Public Recreation study. The purpose of the study is to enhance tourism development in the area, as well as compile and analyse data on current use, and the capability and suitability, of the landscape for public recreation, commercial recreation, and tourism opportunities. The study provides information which can support land and resource planning and management in the study area. The study area covers the Sunshine Coast Forest District.
